Look Back Series: Bollywood, 2002


The top grossing films in 2002 were Devdas, which stood at Number One at Rs. 32, 50, 00, 000, followed by Raaz, Kaante, Aankhen, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Humraaz, Aawara Pagal Deewana, Deewangee and Saathiya.
This year, Gulzar and Asha Parekh won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement and this year showcased a breakthrough achievement in Hindi Cinema with Raveena Tandon winning the  National Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence.” This was one of the few films to showcase out loud the problems faced in the Indian Domestic scenario and the problems of a woman in society.
Ram Gopal Verma, praised by the critics for his most acclaimed film Company hich was a crime, thriller was released in 2002 starring Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi and Manisha Koirala. This film, based on the life of Chota Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim was a critics-acclaimed film in terms of plot and Direction.
2002 also saw a lot of epic and historic films like Maa Tujhe Salaam, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and in terms of critic acclaimed film there was Makdee and Mitr, My Friend both starring theatre actors and showcasing professional talents like Rajat Kapoor and Aparna Sen.
